Collection includes copies of the handwritten diaries detailing Miller's years at the University of Nevada, January 1935 through graduation, May 1938; these have been transcribed. In addition, the collection includes copies of journals written subsequent, detailing his experiences as a war correspondent and foreign correspondent, 1938-1960.

Miller was a foreign correspondent for United Press International for 46 years. In his career he covered World War II, including the Guadalcanal campaign and the invasion of Europe on the Normandy beaches, as well as the Nuremberg trials. College Bowl began in 1953 as a radio program under sponsorship of the General Electric Company, moving to television in 1959. Each week two collegiate undergraduate teams would compete to be the first to correctly answer a variety of scholarly questions.
